Is psychology humanity(solved)

The study of psychology has helped us better understand the human condition and how people think, feel, and behave. It has also offered insights into the brain’s workings and its ability to create mental disorders.

But the question is, do we have to consider psychology as a science or humanity?

This is the theme that we will talk about in this post.

Is psychology humanity?

Psychology is the scientific study of a brain or a  mind. Principally psychology uses scientific and human subjects at the same time. But the principal focus of psychology is science. For this reason, students in Psychology study and use science to explain humanities aspects and phenomena.

This is normal because, in order to understand the mind or the behavior of humans, you need to use some mathematics and scientific approximation.

In other words, psychology stands between scientific and Humanity perspectives. To clarify, students in Psychology study math and some scientific subjects like physics or chemistry. But their whole curriculum focus is based on social science subjects, as we will mention below in the following list:

  • Learning, Memory, and/or Cognition
  • Sensation, Perception, and/or Biological Bases of Behavior
  • Human Development
  • Clinical, Abnormal, and/or Personality
  • Social Influences on Thoughts, Feelings, and Behaviors
  • Methods and Application

So, for this reason, they call psychology aa a social science. It is like using math in economics instead of engineering. It is a soft science. So you would use some stem subjects but in the least or basic concentration.

For this reason, is recommendable for upcoming students who want to major in Psychology to take 2 SAT exam classes:

  • 1 science SAT exam
  • 1 humanity science SAT exam

It Will ensure a great equilibrium in understanding the basics of a field. Also, have a high rate of being accepted into psychology college programs.

The science subjects that students study in psychology

1 – math

The Principles of Scientific or mathematics that Psychology students study is probability and statistics.  These are the only subject that ensures success in psychology math courses.

But you don’t have to worry. Students could succeed in these math courses even if they have math anxiety. Because there isn’t complicated Math subjects that student can struggle with, like calculus and linear algebra.

To study psychology math, students don’t need to have any prerequisites or requirements about math subjects except for math courses like the basics of Algebra 1 and the preferences of some Algebra 2 courses.

That is to say. If you have the arithmetics basics of algebra, you won’t find any issues to succeed in a psychology math course.

To summarize student Study and focus on statistics, especially the following 2 sections that we’re going to list below:

  1. descriptive statistics
  2. referential statistics

If you want to know more about  psychology statistics, you could read the following detailed article:

Is psychology statistics hard? (solved)

2 – One of these science subjects fields

The second entry that psychology students need to understand and have some basic previews knowledge about is the high school science courses, including physics, chemistry, and biology.

You don’t have to dig deeper into this subject. You just have the basics or, let’s say, the foundational courses that you have taken in high school 11 or 12 grade.

But the good news is universities don’t require to have all these science subjects courses together, which means physics, biology, and chemistry.  Universities prefer at least to have one of  These previews that we mentioned depending on the student choice.

So psychology doesn’t require to use of calculus and complex equations, physics, or chemistry. You just need to have the basic science requirements to access this field.
